Dr. Carl Grant serves as chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce President's Advisory Group. He also is a senior vice president, executive counselor to the president and CEO, and member of the Management Committee of the U.S. Chamber. Dr. Grant spends a great deal of time meeting with CEOs of leading corporations in America and around the world. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue has appointed Dr. Grant to conduct fact-finding visits to determine the special concerns of these business leaders, to explain what the Chamber is doing for them in Washington, D.C., and in important global capitals, and to secure the participation of these premier companies in the Chamber's leadership program.

Before this assignment, Dr. Grant ran the large sales operation of the U.S. Chamber, which sells memberships and conducts special fund-raising projects. Earlier, Dr. Grant was responsible for the Chamber's business-communications program, one of the most extensive such programs in America, for which he won many distinguished awards and recognition for his professional accomplishments. As senior vice president of communications, he was responsible for six divisions.

Dr. Grant joined the Chamber as a vice president in 1977. He previously was a television news executive and an award-winning anchorman and held high-level U.S. government positions. In 1976, he was director of public affairs for the U.S. General Services Administration and received the administrator's highest civilian service award. From 1972 to 1976, he served in three other appointed positions: associate director of the Defense Manpower Commission and editor of a report to the president and the Congress; director of the President's Commission on White House Fellows; and executive director of the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. For his work at Employer Support, he received the Secretary of Defense's top civilian award. While at the U.S. Chamber from 1989 to 1990, Dr. Grant anchored a half-hour national business program, weekday mornings on more than 100 of the country's most prestigious TV stations. From 1984 to 1989, he co-anchored a two-hour national business show weekday mornings on ESPN, in addition to his U.S. Chamber management responsibilities. From 1961 to 1972, he was corporate news director for the Kaiser Broadcasting Company and news director and anchorman at the Kaiser-owned television station in Philadelphia. Dr. Grant also held news executive and anchor positions at television stations in Columbus and Youngstown, Ohio, and in Lansing, Michigan.

Dr. Grant's professional honors include two Associated Press investigative reporting awards and local Emmy recognition for television performance. He also was awarded the George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation for reporting on one of the Chamber's news programs. Dr. Grant is the recipient of the 1991–92 William Taylor Distinguished Alumnus Award from Kent State University. Dr. Grant received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Kent State University and his Ph.D. from Ohio State University. He served on active duty with the 82nd Airborne Division and continued his military career as a “citizen soldier,” retiring as a brigadier general from the Army National Guard. He has received the Legion of Merit among other awards. He and his wife, Carol, have three adult children.
