International Community Service Award: 2006 Finalists

The International Community Service Award honors a business or American Chamber of Commerce that has exemplified the ideals of corporate citizenship through a specific community service program outside of the U.S., promoting better corporate-community relations and contributing to global social and economic development.

American International Group (AIG)

AIG is being recognized for its public-private partnership and commitment to rebuild houses and support the recovery of the fishing industry in Aceh, Indonesia, the area most affected by the December 2004 earthquake and tsunami.

GlaxoSmithKline

GSK is being recognized for its goal to fight infectious diseases through the Personal Hygiene and Sanitation Education (PHASE) program in Bangladesh, Kenya, Nicaragua, Peru, Tajikistan and Zambia.

Kimberly-Clark Corporation

Kimberly-Clark Corporation is being recognized for its support of UNICEF in 24 countries to protect and care for children orphaned and made vulnerable by AIDS.

Marathon Oil Corporation

Marathon Oil is being recognized for its public-private partnership to eliminate the health and economic burden of malaria on its workforce and its community on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea, where the company has production interests.

Microsoft Corporation

Microsoft is being recognized for its Unlimited Potential initiative in Guatemala. In partnership with the Cooperative for Education, Microsoft has trained 9,000 students in 16 of Guatemala's impoverished secondary schools to use standard computer and Internet-based applications.

Western Union

Western Union is being recognized for its "4x1 Program," which matches funds from Mexican local, state, and federal governments to help create jobs in areas of Mexico where poverty and migration are high.
