In a first-of-its-kind partnership, the U.S. Chamber is working with National Geographic on a film based on Dr. Moisés Naím's best-selling book Illicit. The 60-minute film, Illicit: The Dark Trade, tells the behind-the-scenes story about the links between intellectual property (IP) theft and other illicit activities, including arms and human trafficking, terrorism, child labor, and drug trade. According to Naím, "We won't get control of this problem until it becomes a dinnertime conversation." Caroline Joiner, executive director of the Chamber's Global Intellectual Property Center, adds, "This powerful and thought-provoking film will help fundamentally reframe the discussion on the issue of IP theft."

 

The film will air on PBS on April 16 and will reach nearly 5 million viewers in the United States before being distributed worldwide. The Chamber will host movie premieres before the air date in Washington, D.C., and New York City. It will also roll out the film to local chambers and universities around the country and at 106 American Chambers of Commerce in 94 countries.
