H.R. 3195 ADA Amendments Act
While preserving the basic framework ofthe Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA),this compromise bill would overturn recent Supreme Court cases that have led to an unduly narrow interpretation of ADA.The bill should make ADA compliance and implementation relatively easier for employers. After voicing concerns with an overly broad version of ADA reform legislation, the Chamberworked with organizations representing the disability community to craft this compromise bill, which represents a balanced approach to ensure appropriate coverage under ADA. Alternative Minimum Tax
 
H.R. 6275 Alternative Minimum Tax Relief Act of 2008
This bill would provide one year of relief from the alternative minimum tax (AMT). However, it would pay for the relief byhiking taxes on certain businesses. Thebill would also require annual reporting of payment card reimbursements to the IRS as a way to improve tax compliance. The Chamber strongly supports extending AMT relief but not through permanent tax increaseson businesses and additional onerous administrative paperwork burdens. LAST ACTION

SBA Reauthorization
 
S. 2920 SBA Reauthorization And Improvement Act of 2008.
This bill would reauthorize and improve the Small Business Administration’s 7(a)and 504 guaranteed loan programs. S. 2920 would also reauthorize entrepreneurial development programs— including SCORE,Small Business Development Centers,Women’s Business Centers, and veteransprograms—that provide much-needed assistance to small businesses. The Chamber supports this bill because it would help foster and encourage entrepreneurial activity and small businessownership. LAST ACTION

Business Taxes
 
H.R. 5267 Business Activity Tax Simplification Act of 2008
This bill would prevent states from levying business activity taxes—such as franchise taxes and business license taxes—on out-of-state businesses unless those businesses have a physical presence in the state. The Chamber supports this bill because it would make it easier to do business and serve customers in multiple states. LAST ACTION

H.R. 6357 PRO(TECH)T Act Of 2008
This bill would make permanent the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and establish grant,loan, and demonstration programs to help providers afford health IT equipment, software,and training. However, the bill would impose onerous new privacy rules including requirements for accounting of disclosures, consent and payment prohibition provisions for health care operations, and breach notification requirements. The Chamber supports the widespread adoption of a nationwide, connected health information technology (HIT)system but has concerns with privacy provisions in this bill. LAST ACTION
