Institute for a Competitive Workforce  - About Us

The Institute for a Competitive Workforce (ICW) promotes high educational standards and effective workforce training systems so that they are aligned with each other and with today’s rigorous business demands.

ICW is a non-profit, non-partisan, 501(c)3 affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, promoting the rigorous educational standards and effective job training systems needed to preserve the strength of America’s greatest economic resource, its workforce.

Through its events, publications, and policy initiatives—and drawing upon the Chamber’s extensive network of corporate members—ICW connects the best minds in American business with the most innovative thinkers in American education, helping them work together to ensure the nation’s continued prosperity.

Activities Include:
  • Annual Education and Workforce Summit: The annual summit brings national business, education, workforce, and policy leaders together to discuss programs and policies that keep America competitive. The 2008 Summit will be held October 20 – 22 in Philadelphia, PA.
  • Coalition and Capacity Building: ICW forms coalitions to advance the Chamber's education and workforce agenda, shape regional and national events, and develop the leadership of local and state chambers of commerce.
  • Community Strategic Engagement: ICW uses its network of members and experts to provide resources and technical assistance that strengthens communities by integrating local education and workforce systems.
  • Regional Forums: ICW convenes regional forums focused on education reform, skills gaps, worker shortages, and educational attainment.
  • Research: ICW publishes reports and conducts surveys highlighting information and trends of critical importance in education and workforce development.
  • Technical Assistance: ICW identifies and connects state and local chambers and businesses to replicable and sustainable education and workforce development strategies and models used by corporations and communities.
  • Monthly Conference Calls: Every month ICW conducts conference calls for all members on the latest issues in education and workforce development facing businesses and communities.
