Policy and Advocacy: Japan
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce works to foster dialogue between the Chamber and its members with Japanese officials and business executives with the goals of improving the business climate in Japan for U.S. companies with investments and other business there and of encouraging cooperation between the United States and Japan on international economic matters, such as multilateral trade liberalization and intellectual property rights protection, of interest to both.
Policy and Advocacy Goals for 2007
- Encourage Japan’s government to join with the United States and the European Union to bring the Doha Round of trade negotiations to a successful conclusion.
- Increase cooperation with Japan’s business organizations to suppress intellectual property rights violations worldwide.
- Monitor the Japanese Government’s deregulation program, including its privatization of the postal financial system, and urge the Japanese government to accelerate deregulation and establish fully even conditions for foreign and domestic companies in Japan.
- Draw Japanese business organizations into the Chamber’s efforts to promote global regulatory cooperation.
Members of the International Division visit Japan regularly for discussions with Japanese government officials and business leaders for consultations on bilateral and global trade and investment.
