William T. Torgerson Elected Chair of National Chamber Litigation Center

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Board of Directors of the National Chamber Litigation Center (NCLC) has elected William T. Torgerson as Chairman of the Board.  Mr. Torgerson joined NCLC as a board member in 1996.  He succeeds Joaquin R. Carbonell III, who recently retired as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of AT&T Mobility.

"Throughout his career, Bill Torgerson has been a strong advocate for the fair treatment of business in the courts and before regulatory agencies," said Robin Conrad, NCLC's Executive Vice President.  "NCLC is very fortunate to have Bill continue Joaquin's terrific work in expanding and advancing our mission."

Mr. Torgerson is Vice Chairman, Chief Legal Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors of Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI), a regional energy holding company that provides utility service to 1.9 million customers.  In addition to legal affairs, Mr. Torgerson oversees the company's Government and Public Affairs activities.

Mr. Torgerson is a 1966 graduate of Princeton University.  He is a 1973 honors graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law.  From 1966 to 1970 Mr. Torgerson was an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving in destroyers and river patrol boats.

NCLC is the public policy law firm of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  The U.S. Chamber is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
