Chamber Applauds Supreme Court Superfund Ruling

Washington, DC-Robin Conrad, executive vice president of the National Chamber Litigation Center (NCLC), commented on today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in United States v. Atlantic Research, allowing companies who voluntarily cleanup polluted sites under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, also known as the Superfund Act, to recover the cleanup costs from those responsible for the pollution.

"The federal government is responsible for a large number of the polluted sites governed by the Superfund Act. Today, the Supreme Court decisively rejected the government's latest attempt to avoid paying its fair share. The good corporate citizens who voluntarily cleanup polluted sites should not be left holding the government's bag."

NCLC, the public policy law firm of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is a membership organization that advocates fair treatment of business in the courts and before regulatory agencies. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
