Transcript

It is vital that the new Medicare prescription drug coverage begin this coming January as planned. Entertaining the possibility of delaying this benefit will put seniors in limbo and lead to the possibility that some may delay enrollment, causing them to pay higher premiums. Employers and health plans have spent 2 years making the necessary changes to comply with Medicare’s requirements and are now conducting their enrollment campaigns. These plans simply cannot be changed at this point. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recognizes that recent emergency spending may require cuts in some programs. Medicare’s drug benefit should not be one of them.
