Transcript

The business community, working with local, state and federal agencies is playing a critical role in the hurricane reconstruction effort. In fact - total business contributions have approached one billion dollars. That is why the hurricane-related litigation that has been filed or is being contemplated across the gulf coast region is so troubling. One lawsuit even charges that gulf coast oil companies are responsible for global warming.  The business community is united behind efforts to quickly help our fellow citizens recover from this catastrophe.  However, we must hold the line on frivolous lawsuits that will only divert attention from the enormous task of rebuilding the region. We have to keep our eye on the ball which is to focus on recovery for storm survivors.
