Transcript

Over 500 U.S. business organizations responded to the Chamber's survey examining the nation's education system - and the findings confirmed what we instinctively knew -the United States is not producing enough skilled workers and American competitiveness is at risk.  Our nation's education system must focus more strongly on improving curriculums, academic expectations, and performance measures to ensure students are prepared for college and the workforce. Other highlights from the survey include:
  • 56% of business owners agree school systems need a substantial amount of input from the business community when setting state standards for college and workforce readiness.
  • 91 percent think better compensation should be given to effective teachers.
  • Four-fifths of the business community are in favor of a yearly state-developed assessment to identify a student's potential learning problems before they escalate
  • 87 percent believe that No Child Left Behind standards should be extended to high schools.
The survey findings strongly support the Chamber's efforts in conjunction with the business community to extend and strengthen the provisions of No Child Left Behind.
