Transcript

If you believe in trade that is free and fair, we've got just the trade deal for you. The Chamber of Commerce strongly urges House members to pass the U.S.-Peru trade promotion agreement. This accord will bring real benefits to the United States. While 99% of imports from Peru enter the United States duty free, American workers, farmers, and companies are forced to pay tariffs of 10, 20 or even 30% to sell their goods in Peru.  The good news is that this agreement will provide a level playing field for American workers and farmers, by eliminating nearly all tariffs on U.S. exports to Peru within a few years. More than 5,000 U.S. companies export their products to Peru, and over 80 percent of these are small and medium-sized companies that stand to benefit significantly from this trade agreement.  The U.S. International Trade Commission estimates this agreement will add a billion dollars to U.S. exports - and that's real money. Today, Peru is a solid democracy making real headway in its struggle against poverty thanks to robust economic growth. Opening the Peruvian market will bring real gains for Americans, and the Chamber urges the House of Representatives to pass the trade agreement with Peru.
