Is worldwide trade good for American workers, families, consumers, and business owners? The answer is yes. As American families work to make ends meet, trade provides lower prices and more choices when they shop. It is important to note that 12 million American workers and farmers depend on trade for their jobs. Also, jobs supported by goods exports pay 13 to 18 percent higher than the average wage. Most people don't know this but, Ninety-five percent of the world's consumers live outside the United States, and they love American products. Booming exports generated more than a quarter of U.S. GDP growth in 2007, helping counter the downturn in the housing and finance sectors. The bottom line is this: Isolationism runs the risk of putting Americans out of work …and limit the choices of quality goods for American consumers.
