Chamber Welcomes Nomination of New Treasury Secretary -- John W. Snow Well Suited for Top Economic Spot

WASHINGTON, D.C. --  President and CEO of the United States Chamber of Commerce Thomas J. Donohue welcomed today's announcement by the White House that CSX Chairman John W. Snow had been tapped to become the new Secretary of the Treasury Department.
"John Snow brings to this assignment extensive experience in government, business and politics.  He has served his country in senior government positions and as leader of important commissions helping to reform the nation's financial community and to encourage a positive change in corporate governance," said Donohue.

"His experience will help government and business meet the twin challenges of protecting our homeland while growing our economy.

"He is respected by business executives, government officials and market leaders.  He is well suited to press American companies to invest and grow now, while continuing the effort towards improved corporate governance.

"John is a financial pro with a Ph.D. in economics, confident in his abilities, but measured in his approach.  He can and will meet the president's high expectations and help the country recharge the economy at this critical time for our nation.

"The Chamber is pleased to welcome a man of his stature and experience to this important assignment.  We look forward to working with him."

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
