U.S. Chamber Names Miller Director of Congressional Affairs -- Miller to Aid Fight for Transportation Funding, Improvement Projects
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The United States Chamber of Commerce today formally announced that it has hired Ashley Miller as director of congressional and public affairs.
"Ashley has served on the front lines in the ongoing battle to revitalize the nation's beleaguered transportation infrastructure," said Chamber President and CEO Thomas Donohue. "She is a great addition to the Chamber's lobbying team and will spearhead our push for reauthorization of surface transportation and aviation infrastructure programs."
As transportation lobbyist, Miller will work to advance the Chamber's effort to expedite the government approval process for transportation improvement projects and protect designated federal transportation funds for the nation's highways, transit, seaports, and airports.
"We have a lot of money earmarked for a long list of transportation trust funds," said Miller. "The question is, will we spend it. I am here to make sure that Congress stays on track with transportation investment."
During her six-year tenure as a legislative assistant to former Sen. William V. Roth, Jr. (R-DE), Miller helped draft the Transportation Efficiency Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), a 1998 law that established highway and transit trust funds to protect ground transportation spending levels. Before joining the Chamber, Miller worked as director of congressional affairs for the Association of American Railroads, lobbying to repeal the diesel fuel tax on railroad and barge companies.
Miller most recently was director of congressional affairs for Amtrak. She has a bachelor's degree from James Madison University and a master's degree in transportation policy from the University of Delaware.
