Chamber Welcomes Announcement on EPA Head

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce welcomed the White House announcement that three-term Utah Governor Mike Leavitt had been nominated to become EPA Administrator.

“President Bush has tapped a recognized consensus-builder as the nation’s top environmentalist – a position that requires leadership and diplomacy,” said Bruce Josten, Chamber executive vice president.  “Governor Leavitt has demonstrated an ability to bring different groups to the table – as an advocate for western air quality issues, as host of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and as the head of the National Governors’ Association.

“The EPA deals with divisive issues and President Bush’s nomination shows he is committed to keeping balance in the nation’s environmental policies.  We look forward to working with Governor Leavitt,” said Josten.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
