Chamber Welcomes New Jobs Numbers
Says Economy is “Back on Track”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce welcomed today’s report from the Department of Labor that showed renewed jobs growth for August.

“After weathering a brief squall, the economy appears to be getting back on track,” said Martin Regalia, Chamber chief economist and vice president of economic policy. “There are more jobs, more people working, a lower unemployment rate and a growing economy – altogether not a bad report for Labor Day.”

The jobs report for August showed 144,000 new jobs and significant upward revisions to June and July. The unemployment rate dropped again to 5.4 percent and the aggregate hours and hourly earnings also improved.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
