Chamber Names Members of Capital Markets Commission

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce announced the names of a number of commissioners for its recently launched Commission on the Regulation of U.S. Capital Markets in the 21st Century.  This independent, bipartisan panel will consider the impact of recent regulatory changes on the capital markets and the appropriate overall legal and regulatory framework to ensure efficient capital flows throughout our economy.

“The Commission is an impressive and diverse group, with members steeped in finance, law, economics, and market regulation.  With the support of the Chamber, we will have a real opportunity to outline beneficial changes to the oversight of our capital markets,” said co-chair William Daley, Chairman of the Midwest, JP Morgan Chase.

In addition to co-chairs Daley and Robert Steel, retired Vice Chairman, Goldman Sachs, newly named members are:
  • John Bachmann, Senior Partner, Edward Jones
  • John Bohn, Chairman, GlobalNet Venture Partners
  • Jim Copeland, former Chief Executive Officer, Deloitte & Touche
  • A.B. Culvahouse, Chairman, O’Melveney & Myers LLP
  • Christine Edwards, Partner, Winston & Strawn
  • Peter Gilbert, Chief Investment Officer, Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System
  • Jim Johnson, Vice Chairman, Perseus LLC
  • Mellody Hobson, President, Ariel Mutual Funds
  • Mickey Kantor, Partner, Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP
  • Rick Murray, Managing Director & Chief Claims Strategist, Swiss Re
  • Don Nickles, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Nickles Group
  • Bob Pozen, Chairman, MFS Investment Management
The Commission will be adding additional members over the coming weeks to represent additional industries and issue areas.  Committee members will meet on a bi-monthly basis throughout the year, with the first meeting to be held in early 2006.  In addition, the Commission will hold a series of public hearings where interested parties will be invited to testify before the commissioners.

The U.S. Chamber is the world’s largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
