WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce today welcomed the results of a survey by the National Cyber Security Partnership that showed the market was responding to the challenge of cyber security.  The survey, released on the two-year anniversary of the President’s National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, details 175 specific actions 65 organizations have taken to implement the President’s strategy.

 

“Evidence shows the market is responding to ever-changing cyber security challenges,” said Andrew Howell, the Chamber’s vice president for homeland security.  “Viruses, spy ware and denial of service attacks are all dynamic threats that demand customer-oriented solutions and the survey shows the business community has responded.”

 

The Chamber, a leader of the National Cyber Security Partnership, also compiled the cyber security activities it and some of its members have undertaken to implement the national strategy.  A cornerstone of the Chamber’s initiatives is educating businesses on how to effectively manage cyber risk.  Over the past 24 months, the Chamber has run 14 articles in its monthly member magazine, on how to better secure network systems.

 

The Chamber also partnered with the Internet Security Alliance to develop a cyber security guidebook for small businesses, and is training small businesses on how to implement the guidebook, according to Howell. In the spring, the Chamber will issue a white paper on cyber security policy that more thoroughly details the progress industry has made in securing the nation’s cyber networks.

 

“While progress has been made, we are committed to continuous improvements in cyber security,” explained Howell.  “Both users and vendors are working collectively to increase our cyber security readiness.”

 

The National Cyber Security Partnership is an informal gathering of private sector organizations across industry sectors and academia committed individually and collaboratively to implement the National Strategy to Secure Cyber Space, which demonstrates industry’s commitment to secure cyberspace.
