WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Center for Corporate Citizenship (CCC) has joined with IBM to launch Jobs4Recovery.com, a “one-stop shop” for connecting job-seekers from areas impacted by hurricanes Katrina and Rita with employment opportunities. 

 

 “One of the most important steps in rebuilding the afflicted areas in the Gulf Coast is to make sure people have jobs to return to and businesses have employees to hire,” said Stephen Jordan, CCC vice president and executive director.  “This program will help realize these goals.”

 

Jobs4Recovery is a search portal that integrates employment opportunity information from job engines Monster.com, HotJobs.com, JobCentral.com com, Indeed.com and similar web sites to aid in bolstering local economies during the recovery effort.  The web site allows people to conduct targeted searches for jobs in the location where they want to work or to browse all available opportunities by state and by map.  In addition, local chambers of commerce will post newly created and identified jobs in their areas.  These jobs will be added to the thousands of available opportunities searchable via Jobs4Recovery.com.

 

“Long-term recovery for the people whose lives were disrupted by Hurricane Katrina depends on stabilizing families and jobs.  One of the best ways to do this is by enabling individuals to find opportunities that will help get them back in the workforce as soon as possible,” said Stanley Litow, president of the IBM International Foundation and vice president of IBM Corporate Community Relations.  “IBM is proud to be working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to help link people with jobs as quickly as possible so that they can move forward in rebuilding their lives.”

 

Employers wishing to post a job can do so through JobCentral.com, a free job posting service available through Jobs4Recovery.com.  New sites are being added as they are received.  Local chambers of commerce or workforce centers can send other job resources to jobs4recovery@uschamber.com with the subject line "Job Resources."
