WASHINGTON, D.C.-The U.S. Chamber of Commerce applauded approval of the U.S.-India civilian nuclear agreement by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today.

 

"The Senate today moved to align the world's two great democracies for the twenty-first century," said Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Daniel W. Christman, Chairman of the Coalition for Partnership with India and senior vice president for International Affairs at the Chamber.  "This initiative will create lucrative opportunities for U.S. industry, create high quality jobs for American workers, and lay the foundation for vast downstream opportunities in every sector of U.S. business."

 

The 16-2 vote follows passage by the House International Relations Committee Tuesday. 

Through the Coalition for Partnership with India, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S.-India Business Council have vigorously promoted the U.S.-India civilian nuclear initiative.
