A Senate White Paper outlining possible legislative and regulatory action for controlling greenhouse gas emissions contains several inherent flaws that, if implemented, could have negative effects on the American economy, according to comments submitted by the United States Chamber of Commerce today. 

 

“We need common sense solutions to this problem that won’t destroy our economy,” said William Kovacs, Chamber vice president for environment, technology & regulatory affairs.  “Any measures that fail to address long-term economic impact and the emergence of technological innovation will miss the mark and ultimately cause more harm than good.”

 

The Chamber contends that a broader public dialogue that comprehensively considers all alternative approaches to curbing emissions is necessary before any legislative and regulatory action can even be discussed.
