Chamber Praises U.S.-Russian Nonproliferation Action

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce praised the U.S.-Russian Declaration on Nuclear Energy and Nonproliferation Joint Actions which commits the two countries to a breakthrough level of cooperation in a key part of the energy industry.

“We stand ready at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to help the U.S.-Russian Civilian Nuclear Cooperation become a reality.  This declaration is the next logical step forward that can develop into to a real win for U.S. businesses in terms potentially opening the doors between U.S. and Russia for billions of dollars needed in new infrastructure investment and services,” said Dan Christman, senior vice president for the Chamber’s International Division.

The Chamber shares the vision set forth by Presidents Bush and Putin in Kennebunkport, that both countries can work together to achieve the common goal of preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons by developing a new initiative towards the expansion of the U.S.-Russia civilian nuclear program.  This dialog is an important step forward to reaching the world’s goals in terms of energy requirements, environmental concerns, and reducing the risks of nuclear proliferation.

Expanding the level of cooperation between the U.S. and Russia will allow us to build on already important initiatives such as the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership and establishing safe, reliable international nuclear fuel supply mechanisms, crucial for the future economic growth of both countries.

The U.S. Chamber is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
