U.S. Chamber Names John Reid Director of Editorial Communications

WASHINGTON, DC-The United States Chamber of Commerce today named John Reid as director of editorial communications. Reid will lead the organization's writers and the media team to grow the Chamber's award-winning Communications Division and its flagship print publication uschamber.com.

"Reid's background on Capitol Hill and communications expertise will be instrumental in helping advance our pro-business messages to the media, to our members, and to the public," said Chamber President and CEO Tom Donohue. "He will be a key player on publicizing our priority issues including free trade, tax reform, energy, transportation, and health care."

Prior to the Chamber, Reid was communications director for U.S. Sen. George Allen (R-VA).  In addition to his service in the Senate, over the past year Reid was president of the Senate Press Secretaries Association. He also has a broad background as a TV producer, reporter, writer, and political advisor.

Upon graduation from Baylor University in 1992, Reid was an intern for Ronald Reagan in Los Angeles, where he drafted remarks for the former president and Nancy Reagan and served as an assistant to the press secretary. After a year in California, Reid went to Waco, Texas, to begin a TV career as a producer and reporter at the CBS affiliate. There he covered the aftermath of the Branch Davidian tragedy, street crime, and the gubernatorial candidacy of George W. Bush.

From 1994 to 2004, Reid was an investigative reporter and subsequently morning and noon news anchor for WRIC-TV, the ABC TV affiliate, in Richmond, Virginia, where he spearheaded the development of its new morning newscast format and provided daily commentary.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
