U.S. Chamber Applauds Appointment of Experienced Public Servant to Florida’s Supreme Court

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Statement of Lisa Rickard, President of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, on Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s appointment of Judge Charles Canady to the Florida Supreme Court.

“The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform commends Governor Charlie Crist for selecting Judge Charles Canady to serve the people of Florida on the state’s highest court.  With more than two and a half decades of public service experience, Justice Canady brings to the Supreme Court a unique and thorough understanding of the government, having served in the judicial, executive and legislative branches.

“The responsibility of appointing justices who will best represent the interests of the state is one of the most crucial duties bestowed upon any governor.  Governor Crist has shown tremendous leadership and a commitment to preserving the integrity of the Court in his selection of this candidate.  In Judge Canady, Governor Crist has found a dedicated servant to the people of Florida, whose fair and honest application of the principles of law is second to none.”

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
