WASHINGTON, D.C.–-The U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for a Competitive Workforce (ICW), announced today that Nicholas M. Donofrio, the former executive vice president of innovation and technology at IBM, will receive the prestigious ICW Excellence in Leadership Award for 2008 for demonstrating a commitment to creating a positive, systemic change in education.

 

"Nick has demonstrated his commitment to improving educational opportunities for young people both personally and as a corporate leader at IBM," said Arthur Rothkopf, U.S. Chamber senior vice president.  "His dedication to ensuring opportunities in engineering, business, and industry for minority students has made a difference in the lives of thousands of students.

 

Throughout his career at IBM Donofrio focused his attention on advancing education and career opportunities for minorities and women. For many years he served on the Board of Directors for the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering as well as the Board of Directors for INROADS, a non-profit organization focused on the training and development of talented minority youth for professional careers in business and industry.

 

"His work has also increased the level of diversity and number of qualified workers in fields that are essential to maintaining America's competitiveness," Rothkopf said.  "For his tireless efforts, vision, and corporate leadership, the Chamber and ICW applaud his service and hope that it will provide an example to others."
