Cover Story: California Fax Ban Overturned

A California federal court on February 27 overturned that state's law restricting business faxes, sending the U.S. Chamber and the nation's small businesses a resounding victory. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California ruled that the fax ban undermined existing federal law by regulating interstate fax transmissions.

U.S. Chamber Chair Pitches In
ABC television's hit show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition selected U.S. Chamber chair Maura Donahue's contracting firm, DonahueFavret Contractors, Inc., as the lead contractor in a project to rebuild a New Orleans church devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
 
The Spirit of Enterprise Award is presented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to members of Congress who voted in support of the Chamber's position on legislation a minimum of 70% of the time during the previous session. Ratings are based on the results of the annual analysis of votes as reported in the Chamber's publication How They Voted.
 
As the amount of time that businesses spend meeting government paperwork requirements reaches a staggering 10 billion hours annually, the U.S. Chamber is urging Congress to more strictly enforce the paperwork reduction laws that are already on the books.
 
Chamber Launches Calif. Program
The U.S. Chamber has initiated an issue advocacy program using television, the Internet, and e-mail to help educate Californians about policies and approaches that will make their state-and the nation-more prosperous and competitive.

Congress on March 7 took an important step in the fight against global counterfeiting by passing the Stop Counterfeiting in Manufactured Goods Act (H.R. 32). President Bush signed the bill on March 16.
